9 Things We’d Like to See Powered by the World’s Most Powerful Jet Engine

The GE90-115B is the world’s most powerful jet engine. If it’s powerful enough be the driving force behind Boeing’s 777 aircraft, then just imagine all the other things it could power. GE’s said that their engine would turn the Titanic into a speedboat, and we say go for it! Make a Titanic speedboat. The sheer might of the GE90 has us dreaming of a better, faster, and more powerful world filled with things driven by jet power. Why limit that power to planes? We’ve compiled a list of 9 things we’d like to see upgraded with the GE90-115B jet engine.

How powerful, exactly, is the GE90-115B? According to GE, it can put out up to 127,900 pounds of thrust. For the sake of comparison, the rocket that took the first American, Alan Shepard, to space only hit 76,000 pounds on thrust. That’s a whole lot of power.

1. No. 1 | Cars

   Our commute into work would be vastly improved if our cars were powered by the GE90-115B jet engine.

2. No. 2 | Jet Packs

   Even with a car powered by a jet engine, our commute -- and indeed our lives as a whole -- would be greatly improved by a jet pack, especially the most powerful jet pack in the world. (image via Jason Adams)

3. No. 3 | Galapagos Tortoises

4. No. 4 | All Other Planes

5. No. 5 | The Internet

   Everyone wants the Internet to be faster, and jets make things faster. How would a jet make the Internet faster? No idea, but if anyone can figure it out it's GE. Ball's in your court. Make a jet-powered Internet. (image via Steve Rhode)

6. No. 6 | S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Helicarrier

   Obviously S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't real, but maybe that's just because they don't have a base to work out of. Let's take a "if you build it, they will come," approach to this thing.

7. No. 7 | Restroom Hand Dryers

8. No. 8 | Wile E. Coyote

   Hollywood seems pretty keen on doing gritty reboots these days. Why not bring Wile E. Coyote back in a big way with a pair of jet-powered roller skates to beat all jet-powered roller skates?

9. No. 9 | Subway Trains

   The subway is a great means of getting around the city. It beats walking, but what it doesn't beat is being shot through a tunnel like a bullet and getting from Brooklyn to Queens in under a minute. (image via runnx)
